How to Make a Paperclip Lock Pick that Works

How to Make a Paperclip Lock Pick that Works

You will require two simple paperclips and a multi tool and by using these resources it will be possible to create a Lock Pick Rake and tension wrench. It is well known among professional locksmiths and unfortunately also some criminals, that the Rake/Tension Wrench is one of the most effective tools to get, in order to bypass standard pin/tumbler and wafer locks. Many people are already aware of the fact that it can be just about impossible to purchase professional lock picks. Likewise training courses in order to learn the skills is also not freely available. However rest assured that the process of making your own simple picks is very simple and there are many cheap padlocks available which can be used to practice your lock picking technique. The issue is simply to learn how to feel the individual pins and also to discover how they move when they are under attention.

At very cheap process

You simply need some large paperclips, the smaller ones will simply not be effective. One of these will be needed to create the Rake and the second one will be used in order to shape the Tension Wrench. Work carefully because even though paperclips can take a lot of punch, when not handled correctly they can snap as you are bending the rake. This is especially true when bending the paperclip in one direction and then directly afterward in the opposite direction. It is always best to use a multi tool when attempting to create this homemade lock picking tool. The process which is used in order to create this lock picking tool can certainly be better explained with a video but nevertheless it should be relatively easy to follow the prescribed process. Nevertheless that process requires that one paperclip be shaped into a rake and the other into a Tension Wrench. When this is done correctly, it is entirely possible to use these homemade lock picks to successfully open a large number of the commercially manufactured locks available today.

How should a lock picks be used?

Your homemade lock picks may have a slightly different feel to them than the commercially available alternatives. Therefore they may also take longer when used to open locks and for this reason paperclips should only be used if there is no other available alternatives. Nevertheless the paperclip version can still be successfully used to pick various kinds of pin/tumbler locks as can be seen in the above video link. It is important to insert the Tension Wrench correctly and it should be placed in the bottom of the keyhole. Gentle pressure should be applied with the Tension Wrench and it should be turned in the same direction which is normally used to unlock the door. Be careful to never use too much force but on the other hand using too little force may make it impossible to successfully pick the lock. The same amount of pressure should be maintained throughout the lock picking process. Now place the pick or the Rake in the upper part of the keyhole and it is necessary to ensure that the hook is facing the pins. Now the pins should be probed which simply means each individual pin should be located and it should be determined how much tension they have. It will be necessary to start with the pen with the most tension and most of the commonly available locks have at least five pins. Now apply pressure to the pin with your lock pick and you should be able to feel when the pin releases and this process should be repeated for all the remaining pins until you are able to fully rotate the lock and the door can be opened.
